I'm inclined to believe my friend regarding the engine speed matching the gearbox. in answer 2 your question i have found the car not very quick at accelerating anyway but a slow steady accelerating thru the gears.i dont no if its coz im used to nippy hatchbacks or wot? No problem at all, I can understand exactly why you don't want to fork out for diagnosis. These are quite common on the Primera's, although there are issues on post 1999/2000 models as the MAF is a Film type which cannot be cleaned easily, as it damages the material, as opposed to the Pre 1999/2000 models which have a Wire type MAF, which can be readily cleaned with the likes of Carb Cleaner.
