POSITION:    FIRE DEPARTMENT

                      CAPTAIN – EMS/TRAINING – FULL TIME (Salary/Exempt; Non-Union)

PAY RATE:  Starting Salary: $36.08 –36.77 $ ($75,046 – $76,481) excellent benefits, low health insurance premiums – NHRS retirement

SUMMARY:

The Captain of EMS/Training is responsible for the development of all facets of EMS and training programs to maintain department wide proficiency in Fire, EMS, Hazmat and Technical Rescue for all personnel. The Captain of EMS/Training works under the direction of the Deputy Fire Chief. Work is carried out independently day-to -day with policy direction. Communications and coordination is maintained with the Deputy Chief to assure departmental goals and objectives are accomplished in assigned areas.

 TYPICAL DUTIES:

Coordinates or conducts on-shift and off shift training classes for fire/EMS subject matter with outside and inside instructors to full time, On Call Firefighters and EMTs.

Develops, maintains and administers training standards, procedures and training manuals for the department. Serves as Training Officer in relation to National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians.
Maintains a high level of up-to date knowledge of current trends in Fire and EMS strategies, tactics and patient care. Maintains personnel training records in the records management system.
Acts as the department’s Unit Controlled Drug Coordinator (UCDC) at a Paramedic level.
Fulfills the Infection Control Officer Position.

Coordinates and facilitates the department’s Quality Assessment and Quality Improvement (QA/QI) program for all ambulance run reports through the TEMSIS Reporting System.
Acts as liaison to: Local hospitals and pharmacies and attends required meetings; EMS customers including nursing homes, assisted living facilities, and urgent care businesses; NH Bureau of EMS; NH Fire Academy
Evaluates the prehospital emergency medical system within the department for areas of enhancement or improvement.
Coordinates department’s ambulance service billing with outside vendor.
Participates as an active member of department’s executive team.
Participates operationally at emergency scenes as needed.
Perform other related duties as assigned by the Chief or his/her designee.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Excellent written and oral communications skills; National Registered EMT- Paramedic; Fire Instructor I; Fire Officer I; Working knowledge of system EMS Patient Protocols; At least five years of fire service experience; Teaching/Instructional experience; A minimum of an associate degree in fire service, or a related field, from an accredited college or university; CDL-B with air brake and tanker endorsement. Working knowledge of Information Technology including Apple and Microsoft products and applications including EMS PCR applications. Ability to organize and analyze data is required Applicants with any combination of education, training, and experience which demonstrates possession of the required knowledge, skills, and abilities comparable to the above qualifications will be considered.
