The Milford Fire Department is seeking a qualified individual to fill the position of Fire Captain/Fire Prevention Officer. This is a highly-responsible position in charge of the delivery of quality-based training in fire prevention, public education, fire investigation and safety training activities. Position is full-time, 42.5 hr/week, Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., with occasional evening hours, and is subject to emergency call back. Starting salary range for this position is $21.13- $33.90/hr. depending on experience and qualifications, plus full Town benefits.

The Fire Prevention Officer is responsible for all fire-prevention activities of the Milford Fire Department to include: performing all fire/safety-related inspections for the Town (e.g., occupancy structures, oil and liquid-propane tanks, fire-protection systems, heating equipment, etc.) to determine life safety and fire prevention code compliance; conducting reviews of plans for new and existing construction to determine compliance with State Fire Codes and local ordinances; performing quality-based public education programs for schools and the overall community in fire prevention methods and technologies. Other duties include fire suppression and emergency response duties.

Qualifications for this position include:

  • Associate’s Degree in fire science, fire protection, or related field
  • State of NH Firefighter II
  • NFPA or NHFA Fire Inspector I
  • Emergency Medical Technician (within one year of appointment)
  • NH CDL B

Five years of experience in fire suppression required with at least two years of experience in fire inspections, public education, and investigations; or any equivalent combination of education and experience which demonstrates possession of the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
