This course is the summation of research for a Masters in Education. It will be an interactive workshop exploring the leading health threats faced by people living on reservations and how our preconceived notions of these conditions may ultimately hinder the care we provide. This workshop is designed to help providers understand how challenges faced by different communities and the root causes of their health issues must be understood in order for us to provide effective holistic care.

Description: In this 4-hour Trauma-Informed First Responder training, participants will be provided with an introduction to trauma-responsive systems and learn about Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) and how early childhood trauma impacts brain development and future health outcomes. The course will also explore how policing and other first responder professions are impacted by secondary traumatic stress and how to implement trauma-responsive practices into your work with children and families. Objectives: 1. Understand the impact trauma has on the developing child and family. 2. Understand the first responder’s role in supporting children and families who have experienced trauma. 3. Explore fears and concerns about addressing trauma in your job role. 4. Explore strategies to support trauma-informed work with children and victims of domestic and/or sexual violence, substance misuse, etc. 5. Build understanding of how to navigate relationships with trauma-exposed children and families. 6. Increase awareness of available services/resources for first responders, children, and families. 7. This class is full. This course is grant funded. The HazMat Technician course is designed specifically for fire and rescue personnel who may respond to incidents involving hazardous materials (hazmats) and/or weapons of mass destruction (WMDs). This Pro Board® accredited course is a 10-day (80 hour), participant-centered, instructor-led training program for first responders. Upon completion of the course, participants will be able to perform the following at hazardous materials/WMD incidents using the IAFF’s risk-based response process – APIE: Analyze the incident to determine the complexity of the problem and potential outcomes. Plan a response including developing response objectives, identifying potential response options, selecting the personal protective equipment (PPE) required and a technical decontamination process, and developing an IAP. Implement the planned response consistent with local emergency response plans and/or standard operating procedures by performing the duties of the hazmat branch; donning, doffing, and working in PPE; and performing control functions and decontamination. Evaluate the progress to determine the effectiveness of control and decontamination functions identified in the IAP.

This class is not a substitution for Orientation or the real CPAT test, nor does it guarantee successful passing of the CPAT certification exam. During this co-ed class, students will gain exposure to each of the eight CPAT events, receive hands-on exposure to the CPAT equipment and receive guidance on techniques to help them prepare for the test. Each student will be given a chance to practice the full test. The student's success on the practice test does not ensure that they will pass the real test. Students must be at least 18 years of age and must wear long pants and sneakers.

This continuing education will provide a systemic review of asthma in both the adult and pediatric populations. Specific topic areas covered include prevalence/trends incidence of asthma in NH, airway anatomy, pathophysiology of asthma, identification of asthma in both the EMS and formal settings, EMS management of asthma and long-term management of asthma. Objectives • Describe the current and projected burden of asthma in New Hampshire. • Describe the general anatomy of the respiratory system. • Describe the pathophysiology of asthma. • Describe the diagnosis and management of chronic asthma. • Describe the identification and management of asthma in the pre-hospital environment.
This class will help educate leaders of Fire Departments and EMS Units how an apprenticeship program could help them build talent and fill their workforce needs while having access to technical and financial assistance such as incentives and funding support.
