Taking Care of Mom and Dad

October 4, 2023 @ 9:00 AM - 11:00 AM
Concord

Wednesday

Description

As our geriatric population continues to grow and be a significant proportion of our transports, it is important to examine the challenges, medical, psychological, and social needs, of this special population. While adult protocols covers adults of all ages, there are considerations in treatment and transport when managing older patients.

Objectives

The student will:

recognize the characteristics of the geriatric population and their unique healthcare challenges
understand the social and psychological impacts of aging
understand how to recognize signs of abuse, neglect, and need for social services in the geriatric population
recognize the need for engaging adult children and caregivers in care and transport
understand how aging impacts movement and transport of the fragile, elderly population
