Course Description

Description: Diabetes is our most prevalent endocrine emergency. To better treat our patients, we will discuss how hormones work and how they fail. We will investigate the of the different types of diabetes, including etiology pathophysiology, treatment, and complications. Newer tools and medications used in treatment will be discussed.
Objectives:
• The participants will understand the mechanisms of action of chemical messengers and how hormones fit into these mechanisms.
• The participants will distinguish the differences between type I, type II, and gestational diabetes including etiology, pathophysiology, treatment, and complications
• The participants will recognize the tools used in recognizing glycemic changes and treatment options for patients, including newer medications.
• The participants will gain familiarity with metabolic syndrome and its role in increasing risk of heart disease and diabetes.
