The New Hampshire Fire Academy Recruit School is a full-time, 14-week fire academy conducted in accordance with the approved Fire Standards and Training Commission curriculum changes associated with NFPA 1010, 2024 edition.
The academy combines classroom instruction, hands-on skills training, physical fitness, practical evolutions, and scenario-based training in a structured recruit environment. Emphasis is placed on strong firefighting fundamentals, professionalism, discipline, integrity, teamwork, accountability, and respect for the fire service.
Recruits must arrive physically prepared for long training days that may include strenuous activity while wearing full structural firefighting PPE and SCBA. Monday through Friday attendance is mandatory, and recruits are expected to reside in the NHFA dormitory during the training week. The residential component is intended to build teamwork, communication, crew cohesion, and familiarity with the dynamics of living and working together in a firehouse environment.
Recruits should expect a demanding academic and practical workload, including classroom assignments, skills practice, physical training, written examinations, and practical evaluations throughout the academy.
Pending successful completion of all course and certification requirements, recruits will be eligible for Pro Board® certification in Firefighter I, Firefighter II, Hazardous Materials Awareness, and Hazardous Materials Operations.
