This two-hour training provides EMS providers with a comprehensive overview of protocols and best practices when responding to emergencies involving individuals partnered with service dogs.
The first hour will focus on foundational knowledge, including:
• Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) regulations
• The legal rights of service dog handlers
• Identifying and understanding the types and roles of service dogs
• Safe, appropriate interaction with working dogs in the field
The second hour will include hands-on, scenario-based training with an ambulance on-site. Participants will practice real-world response strategies, including how to manage service dogs during transport, how to communicate effectively with handlers, and what to do if a service dog is injured or separated from its partner.
By the end of the session, EMS professionals will be better prepared to respond safely, respectfully, and effectively when a service dog team is involved.
