Course Description

This 2-day course provides an introduction to the knowledge, skills and abilities required to navigate current emergency medical services (EMS) management issues and the challenges in moving from EMS provider to EMS supervisor.

Course topics and activities include:

  • The transition to leadership.
  • Time and task management.
  • Communication.
  • Information and technology.
  • Talent management.
  • Health and safety.

The National Fire Academy is located in Emmitsburg, Maryland and was created by the United States Federal Government as a fire training and education institution in 1973. The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) operates the National Fire Academy (NFA). The campus in Emmitsburg also hosts the National Fallen Firefighter’s Memorial. The purpose of the academy is to provide useful training to small rural volunteer departments and full-time urban departments alike. Training for new firefighters all the way up to Chiefs is available across the United States as a result of the NFA. The New Hampshire Fire Academy runs multiple NFA programs every year here within the State of NH. Please review the courses listed below.

Prerequisites must be met at the time of registration. Applicants will be notified within two business days with the status of their applications. Courses where pricing is listed as “Grant Funded” covers tuition only. Overtime/Backfill eligible courses will be specifically noted.

Prerequisites
Incident Command System (ICS)-100-level (Q0462) and ICS-200-level (Q0463) training, available through NFA Online. Chief’s signature attests that the applicant has completed the ICS level 100 and 200 required training.
