The City of Keene’s Fire Department is seeking applicants for the position of Fire Prevention Officer!
Position Summary
The Fire Prevention Officer focuses on all aspects of fire inspections and fire investigations, including fire code plans review, permitting, fire prevention and public education programs. This position ensures compliance with all applicable state and local fire regulations including the current adopted NFPA 1 Fire Code and NFPA 101 Life Safety Code and City of Keene adopted codes and ordinances. This position is required to work collaboratively with City stakeholders and regional and state partners towards the goal of public safety and property protection! Education and Experience
Minimum qualifications include 3 years’ experience in fire prevention, inspections, and investigations. Must be certified by New Hampshire Fire Standards and Training (NHFST) and/or NFPA 1031 compliant Pro Board Fire Inspector I and II. Must have a valid driver’s license.
Preferred qualifications include: NHFST or NFPA 1031 Pro Board Fire Inspector/Plans Examiner I, II, III, IMSA Interior Fire Alarms I and II, National Fire Academy (NFA) Fire Inspections Principles and NFA Fire Arson Origin/Cause Investigations. Associate’s Degree or greater in Fire Science/Protection or Safety. New Hampshire Fire Standards and Training (NHFST) and or National Fire Protection Association (NFPA 1021) compliant Fire Officer I and NHFST and/or NFPA 1033 Pro Board-Certified Fire Investigator/Plans Review I and II.
Required knowledge includes hazard identification and the ability to make corrective recommendations, inspection and investigation procedures, and the ability to read and interpret site and construction documents. The position requires the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with multiple stakeholders throughout the community including other city employees, builders and contractors, tradesmen, architects, citizens, business/property owners as well as regional and state colleagues.
Compensation and Benefits
The annual salary for this full-time position is $65,017.68- $83,319.60. Starting salary will be based on qualifications and prior experience. The City also has a new inventive program! New Hampshire and out-of-state career firefighters (FF2/AEMT or FF2/Paramedic) with one year of full-time service at the time of hire are now incentive eligible- up to $7,500 depending on credentials! Lateral hires must satisfy the NHFSCT 700 rules as a condition of hire.
