Performs work and supervises the general activities of Fire/EMS companies at emergency
incidents. Provides ongoing training to include NREMT-RTP, performs certification of basic level
providers, and assists with certification of advanced level providers. May instruct department
employees in all aspects of departmental services. Develops, instructs, and evaluates training
courses and curriculum that meet state and national certification requirements; addresses
special or operational needs of the department. Ensures the maintenance of training records;
ensures that all members’ necessary certifications are current. This position will operate under
the 40 hour work week.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:
Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with city policies, procedures, and
applicable laws, including training in job skills, appraising performance, addressing complaints,
resolving problems, and planning, assigning, and directing work.
Confers with upper management to keep them informed on key issues and progress toward
objectives and to gain their support and approval; makes recommendations to assist
management in making needed improvements.
Assists in budget preparation, purchasing, and varied administrative functions of fire services.
Provides EMS care at a paramedic level.
