Course Description

This will be a three part presentation. The first two speakers will discuss suicide from the perspective of a family whose spouse was a career firefighter and completed suicide in 2020 as well as a clinical social worker who has specifically worked in the mental health field developing suicide prevention and postintervention programs. The final speaker will conduct a workshop where participants should expect to leave with a better understanding of how stress and trauma affect first responder performance and be equipped with techniques to build resilience and initiate difficult conversations.

Objectives to be met:
1. Identify the warning signs for mental health issues and suicide risk
2. Understand the barriers to help seeking
3. Learn evidence-based strategies for suicide prevention
4. Initiate an #IWillListen / #IWillTalk conversation
5. Identify at least five resources for officers in your agency
6. Explore resilience and healthy habits
7. Employ a R.A.N.G.E. of five resilience skills
