Course Description

The MIH-P continuing education program consists of classes developed to equip experienced EMS
providers with the skills they need to succeed in a mobile intergrated healthcare program. Program topics
include high-risk patient populations, available community resources, chronic disease management,
pathophysiology of disease, and basic lab techniques and tests. Significant clinical experience is required to
enroll in a MIH-P program.

This initial rollout of the MIH-P continuing education program is intended to provide an initial cadre of
EMS providers with entry-level knowledge and skills and to prepare them for advanced didactic and
practical training once active with an MIH program.
This initial rollout is not intended to support any one particular program or program type. Nor is it
intended to lead to any one particular certification or credential.

This MIH-P program is based upon two core concepts.

  1. Transitioning from EMS Provider to MIH Provider. This concept introduces students to the role
and responsibilities of MIH-Ps. Students will learn how to provide continuous, high-quality patient care
as a member of a health care team. They will learn how the EMS Provider’s scope of practice
complements the expanded role of the MIH-P. Instructors will prepare students to build long-term
therapeutic relationships with patients and sharpen their critical thinking skills.
  2. Transitioning from Emergent to Preventive Care. The goal of this concept is to train students to
adapt and expand the emergent care patient assessment process to an acute care patient; how to implement
a patient’s plan of care; and how to work within a health care team to provide long-term preventive
patient care. Students will learn about the role of the MIH-P in assisting with preventive care for the entire
    community, including immunizations.
  3. Clinical Training. As the MIH programs currently operating here in New Hampshire have a variety of
focuses this MIH-P program does not encompass a significant practical clinical component. It is instead
intended to prepare students for day 1 success in MIH Program specific training provided by each
    individual MIH program.
