Description:
In this 4-hour Trauma-Informed First Responder training, participants will be provided with an introduction to trauma-responsive systems and learn about Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) and how early childhood trauma impacts brain development and future health outcomes. The course will also explore how policing and other first responder professions are impacted by secondary traumatic stress and how to implement trauma-responsive practices into your work with children and families.

Objectives:
1. Understand the impact trauma has on the developing child and family.
2. Understand the first responder’s role in supporting children and families who have experienced trauma.
3. Explore fears and concerns about addressing trauma in your job role.
4. Explore strategies to support trauma-informed work with children and victims of domestic and/or sexual violence, substance misuse, etc.
5. Build understanding of how to navigate relationships with trauma-exposed children and families.
6. Increase awareness of available services/resources for first responders, children, and families.
7. Increase positive interactions with families.
